Julie Clerc Named MASCAC Volleyball Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State College sophomore outside hitter Julie Clerc has been selected as the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Volleyball Player of the Week.

A native of Acushnet, Massachusetts, Clerc averaged 9.0 kills, 7.8 digs and 3.3 aces in 2-2 week for Bears, which included a 3-0 victory over MASCAC rival Salem State College.

Clerc earned All-Tournament Silver Bracket honors at the Hall of Fame Invitational held at Mount Holyoke College over the weekend.  Her highlight performance at the tournament was a 12-kill, eight-ace effort in the Bears' 3-1 victory over host Mount Holyoke.

Through 28 matches this season, Clerc leads the Bears in kills with 278 and in aces with 50.  She is also third on the team with 238 digs and fourth in blocks with 23.  Among the MASCAC leaders, Clerc ranks second in the conference in kills and seventh in aces.

Bridgewater State is currently 7-21 on the season, but more importantly 4-1 in the MASCAC standings.  A win over Westfield State on Tuesday night would clinch a tie for first place and give the Bears the top seed for the upcoming MASCAC Tournament.
