Women's Soccer Rallies for 4-3 Win over Plymouth State

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Seniors Ashley Hersey (Newburyport, MA) and Jacklyn Wisocky (Brockton, MA) each tallied a goal and two assists to lead the Bridgewater State College women's soccer team to a 4-3 comeback win over visiting Plymouth State University this afternoon at Swenson Field in Bridgewater.
With the win, Bridgewater improves their overall record to 6-6-2, while Plymouth State falls to 5-7-2.
Trailing 3-2 at the intermission, Hersey scored her second goal of the season in the 53rd minute as she knocked in a Wisocky shot that was trickling towards the goal line. Wisocky then netted the game-winner in the 77th minute off a corner kick. The corner attempt was knocked away by the Plymouth keeper, but the BSC senior midfielder jumped on the loose ball and volleyed a shot under the crossbar for her team-leading fifth goal of 2009.
Bridgewater got off to a fast start jumping out to a 2-0 lead on first half goals from senior midfielder Christine Soucy (Rockland, MA) and junior midfielder Amanda Vigneault (Ludlow, MA).
That lead quickly evaporated as Plymouth State scored three times in a span of less than eight minutes to take a 3-2 lead into halftime. Junior forward Rebecca Wilson (Clinton, CT) notched her 10th and 11th goals of the season to tie the game, and sophomore midfielder Sarah Pandiscio (Simsbury, CT) put the Panthers ahead with her third marker of the year.
Junior goaltender Kayla Grover (Haverhill, MA) turned aside seven shots to record her fifth win of the season for the Bears who held a 21-14 shot advantage as well as an 8-2 edge in corner kicks. Sophomore Angelina LaBroad (Hampton, NH) made seven saves in the loss for the Panthers.
Bridgewater State will host MASCAC foe Framingham State College this Saturday at noon. Plymouth State will head back home to host Little East Conference rival UMass Boston on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
