Coach Smith will be entering her third season as the Bears' head women's lacrosse coach. Erika is a 2005 graduate of Bridgewater State where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education with a concentration in teaching. She was also a three-sport athlete competing on the varsity field hockey and women's lacrosse teams as well as the club ice hockey team.
Smith was a four-year starter on the women's lacrosse team from 2001 to 2004 captaining the squad during her senior season. She recorded 88 goals and 43 assists for 131 points in 63 games, was named a New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) All-Star three times, and earned NEWLA Defensive Player of the Year honors during her sophomore season of 2002. She was also a four-year starter and three-year captain on the BSC field hockey team from 2000-2003. She amassed 13 goals and 16 assists for a total of 42 points in 66 games and was named to both the MASCAC and Little East All-Conference Teams in each of her final three seasons. In 2004, Erika was selected as the Bridgewater State College Female Scholar Athlete of the Year.
Prior to coaching at BSC, Smith was an assistant field hockey coach at Bridgewater-Raynham High School during the fall of 2004, and she was also the head women's lacrosse coach at Oliver Ames High School in Easton during the 2005 season. Erika has also worked at the South Shore Lacrosse Camp in Weymouth over the last three years.
A native of Raynham, Massachusetts, Smith is currently a Physical Education teacher at Brockton High School. She also just recently received her Master's of Science degree in Physical Education.

Lauren Mazzola also joins the BSC Lacrosse coaching staff this season. A 2006 graduate of Bridgewater State, Mazzola was a standout goaltender at BSC in both field hockey and women's lacrosse during her collegiate career which spanned from 2001 to 2005. Mazzola also started all 37 games in goal for the Bears in three season on the lacrosse field from 2003 to 2005. She posted a career record of 21-16 with 394 saves and a 9.29 goals against average. Mazzola set a career high with 156 saves during her senior season of 2005, and posted career best figures with a 7.10 goals against average and a .607 save percentage in 2004.
Her postseason field hockey accolades include capturing Little East Conference Second Team All-Star honors in 2003 as well as Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) All-Conference honors in both 2003 and 2004. In women's lacrosse, Mazzola was a New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) First team All-Star in 2004.
In four seasons on the field hockey team she played in 46 games starting 39 of them with 424 career saves, 9 shutouts and a 2.04 goals against average. In 2003, she posted a record of 11-6 with 152 saves and a 1.67 goals against average as she helped the Bears advance to the semifinal round of the Little East Conference Tournament. In her senior season of 2004, Mazzola registered a school-record 229 saves as she became the first goaltender in BSC field hockey history to amass 200 or more saves in a season. All told her 424 career saves ranks second all-time at BSC.
