Jenny Jones Named NEWLA Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - Bridgewater State College sophomore attack Jenny Jones has been named the New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) Player of the Week.

Jones notched 17 goals, nine assists for 26 points in a perfect 3-0 week for the Bears who wrapped up their second straight NEWLA regular season title with victories over Castleton State, Becker and Fitchburg State. She also notched five ground balls and eight draw controls.

A native of Framingham, Massachusetts, Jones tied the school single-game records for goals and points in BSC's 27-15 win over Castleton as she scored 10 goals and added three assists for 13 points. She also tallied three goals and five assists in a 26-10 win over Becker, and four goals and an assist in a 22-11 victory over Fitchburg state.

In 16 games this season, Jones has scored 57 goals to go along with 28 assists and 43 draw controls.  She is sixth in the NEWLA in both assists and points per game, and is tied for ninth in goals per game.

In just two seasons at BSC, Jones already has 124 goals and 39 assists to her credit for a total of 163 points.  She ranks sixth all-time at Bridgewater in goals with 124, and seventh in scoring with 163 points. In her rookie year of 2008, Jones set the Bears' single-season record with 67 goals.

Bridgewater State wrapped up the regular season with an overall record of 12-4 with a perfect 7-0 mark in NEWLA play.  The Bears have won 16 straight games against NEWLA opponents since rejoining the Alliance prior to the start of the 2008 season.

BSC is the top seed in the NEWLA Tournament and will host fourth-seeded Worcester State College in a semifinal matchup on Wednesday afternoon at 3:30.
