Three Bears Named to ECAC Women's Lacrosse All-Star Team

2009 ECAC Division III New England Women's Lacrosse All-Star Team
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State College junior midfielder Shannon Manning (Framingham, MA), sophomore attack Jenny Jones (Framingham, MA) and sophomore defender Erin Quimby (Chelmsford, MA) have been named to the 2009 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Women's Lacrosse All-Star Team. All three student-athletes are first team selections.
Manning notched her second consecutive 100-point season as she finished with 61 goals and 39 assists. She also recording 62 ground balls, 58 draw controls and 23 caused turnovers. Manning ranked third in the New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) in assists, fourth in scoring, ground balls and draw controls, and tenth in goals. She was an All-NEWLA First Time honoree for the second straight season.
Quimby tallied 38 ground balls, 29 draw controls and 20 caused turnovers in 15 games this season. She also added five goals and five assists for ten points. A first team all-conference selection as well as the NEWLA Defensive Player of the Year, Quimby ranked fifth in the conference in caused turnovers per game with 1.33.
Jones, the 2008 NEWLA Rookie of the Year, had a phenomenal sophomore campaign as she broke her own school record for goals with 71. She also added 31 assists for a total of 102 points, and registered 25 ground balls and 52 draw controls. The 102 points is second only to Manning's 105-point season of 2008 in the BSC record books. Jones, who was also named to the All-NEWLA First Team, finished third in the conference in scoring, fourth in goals and fifth in both assists and draw controls.
Bridgewater State wrapped up the season with an overall record of 14-4 with a perfect 7-0 mark in NEWLA play. The Bears captured both the NEWLA regular season and tournament titles for the second straight year and fourth time overall. BSC has won 18 straight games against NEWLA opponents since rejoining the Alliance prior to the start of the 2008 season.
Manning ranks second all-time at Bridgewater State in points (264) and assists (99). She is also third in goals (165). Jones is sixth all-time at BSC in both goals (138) and points (180).
The ECAC all-star selections are the first for the BSC women's lacrosse program since the 2003 season when Paula Habel was named to the second team. Habel is the Bears' all-time leading scorer with 336 points.
