Anza, Maloney, Manning Capture NEWLA Player of the Week Honors

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. --- The Bridgewater State College women’s lacrosse team made it a complete sweep of the New England Women’s Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) weekly honors as three members of the team were distinguished for their outstanding performances last week.
Sophomore midfielder Shannon Manning
(Framingham, MA) was named the NEWLA Player of the Week for the
second consecutive week. Senior defender Heather
Anza (Weston, MA) was selected as the Defensive Player of
the Week, while freshman attack Patricia Maloney
(Walpole, MA) captured Rookie of the Week honors.
Manning was impressive on both offense and defense this week as she
tallied six goals and six assists for 12 points in a pair of games
for BSC which included a 25-0 win over NEWLA foe Thomas College.
She also registered seven draw controls, five ground balls and
three caused turnovers. In the Bears win over the Terriers, Manning
tallied three goals and four assists to go along with four draw
controls, three caused turnovers, and five ground balls.
Anza played two solid defensive games for the Bears last week which
included their shutout victory over Thomas. She notched five ground
balls, five draw controls and a caused turnover to go along with a
pair of assists. Versus Thomas, Anza registered three ground balls,
a draw control and a caused turnover to go along with her two
assists.
Maloney tallied five goals and four assists for nine points in the
two games last week. She also recorded four ground balls, a draw
control and a caused turnover. In the win versus Thomas, Maloney
scored three goals to go along with four assists.
Over the next week Bridgewater State College will play a pair of
games on the road. On Thursday the Bears will travel to Newport, RI
to take on Salve Regina at 4 o’clock and on Saturday they
will be entertained by Castleton at 1 PM.
