Shannon Manning Named ECAC Women's Lacrosse All-Star

2008 ECAC Division III New England Women's Lacrosse All-Star Team

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State College sophomore midfielder Shannon Manning has been named a first team selection on the 2008 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Women's Lacrosse All-Star Team.  Manning is BSC's first ECAC all-star selection since Paula Habel received the honor in 2003.

A native of Framingham, Massachusetts, Manning had arguably the finest season in the history of BSC women's lacrosse in 2008 as she set the Bears' single-season scoring and assist records.

Manning tallied 56 goals and 49 assists for a total of 105 points in 20 games for the Bears.  She broke Habel's single-season marks of 47 assists and 99 points set back in 2002.  Manning also recorded 68 draw controls, 39 ground balls and 25 caused turnovers.

Manning helped the Bears post an overall record of 15-5 including a perfect 7-0 mark in the New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA).  BSC captured both the NEWLA regular season and tournament titles, and advanced to the championship game of the ECAC Division III New England Tournament.

In the NEWLA statistical category leaders, Manning finished the season ranked first in both points and assists, second in draw controls and third in goals.  She also tied for seventh in all of Division III in scoring and tied for ninth in assists.  As a team, the Bears led all of Division III in scoring offense (18.96 goals per game), and finished second in totals points (575) and scoring margin (+9.15 gpg).

In just two seasons at Bridgewater State, Manning has 104 goals and 60 assists to her credit for a total of 164 points.  She is already second all-time at BSC in career assists and fifth in scoring.

Manning also set the Bears' single-game assist mark in a 26-3 win over Becker College on April 6th as she notched ten assists.  She broke Habel's previous record of seven set in 2002 versus Worcester State. In that same game, the Bears set NCAA Division III single-game records for assists with 24 and points with 50.

Four single-season team marks were broken in 2008 thanks in part to Manning's outstanding play.  Those included goals (381), assists (194), points (575) and draw controls (377).
