Lauren Mazzola Named Assistant Women's Lacrosse Coach

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State College Director of Athletics, John Harper, announced that former BSC women's lacrosse standout goaltender Lauren Mazzola has been named as an assistant coach on the women's lacrosse coaching staff.

A 2006 graduate of Bridgewater State, Mazzola was a standout goaltender at BSC in both field hockey and women's lacrosse during her collegiate career which spanned from 2001 to 2005.  Her postseason women's lacrosse lacrosse accolades include being named a New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) First team All-Star in 2004.  In the sport of field hockey, Mazzola captured Little East Conference Second Team All-Star honors in 2003 as well as Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) All-Conference honors in both 2003 and 2004.

Mazzola, a native of Westwood, Massachusetts, started all 37 games in goal for the Bears in three seasons on the lacrosse field from 2003 to 2005.  She posted a career record of 21-16 with 394 saves and a 9.29 goals against average.  Mazzola set a career high with 156 saves during her senior season of 2005, and posted career best figures with a 7.10 goals against average and a .607 save percentage in 2004.  

In four seasons on the field hockey team she played in 46 games starting 39 of them with 424 career saves, 9 shutouts and a 2.04 goals against average.  In 2003, she posted a record of 11-6 with 152 saves and a 1.67 goals against average as she helped the Bears advance to the semifinal round of the Little East Conference Tournament.  In her senior season of 2004, Mazzola registered a school-record 229 saves as she became the first goaltender in BSC field hockey history to amass 200 or more saves in a season.  All told her 424 career saves ranks second all-time at BSC.
