Alyssa Verronneau Named to NFCA All-New England Third Team

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State College junior pitcher Alyssa Verronneau has been named to the 2008 Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III All-New England Third Team.
In 29 appearances in the circle for the Bears this season, Verronneau is 16-5 with five saves, 158 strikeouts and a 1.96 earned run average. She has made 21 starts with 19 complete games and seven shutouts, and has pitched 146 2/3 innings.
The Acushnet, Massachusetts native currently leads the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) in wins, saves and appearances. She is also second in the conference in ERA, innings pitched, and strikeouts, and tied for second in starts.
Verronneau helped BSC go undefeated in MASCAC play as the Bears posted a perfect 14-0 mark against MASCAC teams during the regular season. The softball team has now won 13 consecutive MASCAC regular season titles.
Verronneau also pitched Bridgewater State to the MASCAC Tournament title and a berth in the NCAA Division III Championship as she went 3-0 with a 0.78 earned run average and 28 strikeouts in 18 innings of work at the tournament.
Verronneau went the distance and struck out 14 in the Bears' 4-2 opening game win over Framingham State. She the tossed a complete game two-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts as Bridgewater knocked off Westfield State, 4-0, in the winner's bracket championship game. Verronneau capped things off by hurling four shutout innings of relief as the Bears won the tournament title with a 5-1 win over Westfield State.
The Bears will be making the program's 19th appearance in the NCAA Division III Softball Tournament and ninth appearance in the last eleven years. BSC is seeded sixth at the seven-team New England Regional hosted by Rhode Island College. The Bears (26-15) will take on third seeded Saint Joseph's College of Long Island (30-6) on Thursday at noon.
