Stewarts Win Paces Bears at Ray Dwyer InvitationalWARWICK, R.I. -- While the weather may have been sunny, the course was tough for the Bridgewater State cross country teams on Saturday at Goddard State Park in Warwick, RI for the Ray Dwyer Invitational, hosted by Rhode Island College. The runners spent much of the day dodging large obstacles on trails covered in soft sand. There would be no personal bests set on this course. |

UMass-Dartmouth Cross Country InvitationalOn the mens side, the Bears, without a single senior athlete, took 21st place out of 31 teams led by junior co-captain Brian Stewart (Scituate, MA). Stewart was the first BSC runner across the line in a time of 27:09, setting a personal record on the UMass course by over a minute while placing 77th out of 225 varsity runners. Next across was freshman Lowell Chumsae (Shrewsbury, MA) in a time of 27:24, showing plenty of promise for the men of Bridgewater. The other junior co-captain, Tim Barrow (Woburn, MA), was the 3rd BSC runner across the finish line in a time of 28:25, also a personal best. |

Men 5th at Conference ChampionshipsOn the mens side, Brian Stewart ran a smart tactical race and steadily moved from 8th place after the first mile to 5th place by the 4-mile mark. Brian wasnt done yet. He continued to push over the last mile into 3rd place and held off some late challengers to the finish line. He was the lone Bear on the mens side achieving All MASCAC Conference Honors. However, the rest of the men didnt let the tough competition effect some fine personal showings. |
