Erika Smith

Coach Smith will be entering her second season as the Bears head coach after serving one season as an assistant on the staff.  Erika is a  2005 graduate of Bridgewater State where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education with a concentration in teaching.  She was also a three-sport athlete competing on the varsity field hockey and women's lacrosse teams as well as the club ice hockey team.  

Erika was a four-year starter and three-year captain on the field hockey team from 2000-2003.  She amassed 13 goals and 16 assists for a total of 42 points in 66 games and was named to both the MASCAC and Little East All-Conference Teams in each of her final three seasons. In 2004, she was selected as the Bridgewater State College Female Scholar Athlete of the Year.

Prior to coaching at BSC, Smith was an assistant field hockey coach at Bridgewater-Raynham High School during the fall of 2004.  She is also currently the head women's lacrosse coach at BSC as she was named to that position prior to the start of the 2006 lacrosse season.  Erika also coached lacrosse at Oliver Ames High School in Easton and has also worked at the South Shore Lacrosse Camp in Weymouth.  

A native of Raynham, Massachusetts, Smith is currently a Physical Education teacher at Brockton High School. She just recently received her Master's of Science degree in Physical Education from Bridgewater State.




Lauren Jones

Lauren Jones joins the BSC field hockey coaching staff this season.  She is a 2007 graduate of UMass-Lowell where she was a standout defender for three seasons (2003, 2005, 2006) as she helped the River Hawks capture an NCAA Division II Title in 2005.  During her tenure, UMass posted a record of 53-16, won the Northeast-10 Tournament championship three times and advanced to the NCAA Division II Tournament all three years highlighted by national championship game appearances in 2005 and 2006.

A 2006 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) First Team All-American, Jones started all 46 games on defense over her last two seasons as the team posted a record of 38-8 during that period.  She helped UMass compile 23 shutouts during her career as well as a school record setting 0.99 goals against average during her senior season.  Along with being named an NFHCA All-American in 2006, Lauren was also a Northeast-10 First Team All-Conference selection and an ECAC Division II All-Star.

A native of West Brookfield, Massachusetts, Lauren attended Quaboag Regional High School where she was a Southern Worcester County League All-Star as well as the league's Player of the Year in 2002. She also played in the National Futures Tournament in 2001 and 2002, and the National Futures Elite program in 2002 and 2003.




Lauren Mazzola

Lauren Mazzola also joins the BSC field hockey coaching staff this season.  A 2006 graduate of Bridgewater State, Mazzola was a standout goaltender at BSC in both field hockey and women's lacrosse during her collegiate career which spanned from 2001 to 2005.  Her postseason field hockey accolades include capturing Little East Conference Second Team All-Star honors in 2003 as well as Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) All-Conference honors in both 2003 and 2004. In women's lacrosse, Mazzola was a New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) First team All-Star in 2004.

In four seasons on the field hockey team she played in 46 games starting 39 of them with 424 career saves, 9 shutouts and a 2.04 goals against average.  In 2003, she posted a record of 11-6 with 152 saves and a 1.67 goals against average as she helped the Bears advance to the semifinal round of the Little East Conference Tournament.  In her senior season of 2004, Mazzola registered a school-record 229 saves as she became the first goaltender in BSC field hockey history to amass 200 or more saves in a season.  All told her 424 career saves ranks second all-time at BSC.

Mazzola also started all 37 games in goal for the Bears in three season on the lacrosse field from 2003 to 2005.  She posted a career record of 21-16 with 394 saves and a 9.29 goals against average.  Mazzola set a career high with 156 saves during her senior season of 2005, and posted career best figures with a 7.10 goals against average and a .607 save percentage in 2004.
