Little East All-Academic Field Hockey Team Announced

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass.--- Four Bridgewater State College field hockey student athletes have been named to the Little East Conference’s inaugural All-Academic Team for the fall 2007 season. BSC tied for the fourth most team members with Eastern Connecticut, UMass Dartmouth and Southern Maine while Keene State led the way with 10 athletes who were honored.

Senior’s Laura Chiuppi (Lakeville, MA/Geography major) and Nicole Downs (Hanover, MA/Mathematics) along with junior’s Kelly Duchemin (Mashpee, MA/Business) and Stacey Takis (Georgetown, MA/Elem.-Special Ed. & Sociology) were garnered with honors on the team.

The Bears finished the season with the most wins in the history of the program with a 16-6 record (7-4 Little East). After losing to league champion Keene State in the semifinals of the conference tournament, the BSC field hockey team posted three consecutive shutout victories to win the 2007 New England Division III ECAC Women’s Field Hockey Championship.

Honorees have made the All-Academic team based on the following criteria: at least a sophomore academic and athletic standing, and a minimum cumulative grade point average of a 3.2.

The conference office has honored student-athletes in the following seven sponsored sports: field hockey, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s soccer, women’s tennis and women’s volleyball.
