17 Bears Named to NEFC All-Academic Team

2009 NEFC All-Academic Team

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - Seventeen members of the 2009 Bridgewater State College football team earned New England Football Conference (NEFC) All-Academic honors.  The all-academic team was released today by NEFC Director of Media Relations, Roger Crosley.

To qualify for the team, a player must have completed three semesters at the same institution and maintain a 3.0 or higher cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

Linebackers Casey Florence (Bridgewater, MA) and Tim Powling (Orange, MA), running back Kevin Berthiaume (Lunenburg, MA), defensive tackle Chris Dijak (Lunenburg, MA) and offensive guard Joel Nunes (Taunton, MA) are the five seniors from the 2009 squad who achieved all-academic status.

Members of the junior class on the all-academic team are safety Gilbert Cham (Dorchester, MA), quarterback Josh Euglow (North Smithfield, RI), center Chris Grande (New Bedford, MA), linebacker Mike Larffarello (Wilmington, MA), cornerback Jordan Thompson (Kingston, MA) and running back Jared Ulak (Rehoboth, MA).

Sophomores include defensive lineman Juan DeLeon (Northbridge, MA), offensive tackle Chris Howard (Seekonk, MA), defensive end Matthew MacFadzen (Agawam, MA), defensive tackle Michael Nazzaro (Boxford, MA), linebacker William Stearns (Medford, MA) and tight end Brendan Sweed (Foxboro, MA).

The Bridgewater State football team posted a record of 7-3 during the 2009 season.  The Bears finished in second place in the NEFC Bogan Division standings with a 5-2 mark in divisional play.

Bridgewater had more all-academic representatives than any of the other six Massachusetts state colleges or universities competing in the NEFC.
