Rick Smith has enjoyed 15 successful seasons at Bridgewater State, which has included eight trips to the NCAA regional championships and two trips to the NCAA Division III College World Series in 1996 and 1997. His overall record of 381-189-4 (.667) during that period makes him the winningest coach in BSC baseball history. In 2005, Coach Smith became the first head coach in program history to reach the 300-win milestone (a 12-0, no-hit win over Daniel Webster College on March 13th in Florida).
In 1996 and again in 2000, Rick was named the ABCA New England Division III "Coach of the Year". He was also selected the MASCAC "Coach of the Year" in 1998 and again in 2000. BSC has won or shared the MASCAC regular season title each of the last four seasons and nine times during his head coaching tenure. His teams have also won at least 20 games in 14 of his 15 seasons at the helm, with two 30-win campaigns in 1996 (31-10) and 2000 (30-9).
Before coaching at Bridgewater State, Coach Smith had been an assistant coach at Stonehill College for seven seasons (1983-89). He then went on to be the assistant at Bridgewater under former head coach Glenn Tufts from 1990-93.
Rick is a 1972 graduate of Bridgewater-Raynham High School where he starred as a pitcher for the Trojans. He was taken in the fifth round of the annual Major League Baseball baseball draft by the St. Louis Cardinals. He now resides in Raynham with his daughters, Ariana and Sydney.

Coach Poitras is entering his fifth season on the baseball coaching staff. A native of Acushnet, Mass, Matt was an outstanding shortstop for the Bears from 1994 to 1997, as he batted .329 during his four-year career while also registering an impressive .940 fielding percentage.
Matt's junior and senior seasons of 1996 and 1997 were his and also the programs most successful campaigns. In 1996, Matt batted .335 with 9 stolen bases, 39 runs scored and 34 runs batted in as he helped the Bears to not only capture the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championship but also finish third at the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. Matt was named to the NCAA New England Regional All-Tournament Team in 1996.
The following season, 1997, Matt was nothing short of impressive as he batted .379 with 4 home runs, 5 triples, 15 doubles, 49 runs batted in and 51 runs scored. The Bears captured the Mid-Atlantic Regional title and advanced to Division III Championship Tournament for the second straight season.
Matt was named to the All-MASCAC Team on two separate occasions, garnering first team as well as MASCAC Player of the Year honors in 1997. He was also selected to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-New England First Team in 1997, the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) All-New England First Team, and the ECAC All-New England Second Team. Matt was also selected to play at the NEIBA College Baseball All-Star Game in 1997 as well.
Coach Poitras presently resides in his hometown of Acushnet and works at MD Cabinetry in Raynham, Mass.

Assistant Coach-Pitching |
David Fouracre is entering his second season on the Bridgewater State College baseball coaching staff as he will be handling the pitching coach duties once again.
Fouracre coached for 32 years at the high school level beginning as a junior varsity and freshman coach at Brockton High School from 1974 to 1981. In 1982 he became the head varsity coach at Oliver Ames High School in Easton, Mass where he spent the next six years before returning to Brockton as the head varsity coach in 1988. Dave would coach the Boxers for the next 18 seasons posting a record of 237-151.
All told in his 32 years of coaching high school ball Dave won 410 games, coached 14 Boston Globe and Boston Herald All-Scholastic ball players, and directed his teams to 7 league titles and 14 state tournament appearances. In 1997, his Brockton Boxer squad won the Massachusetts Division I State Championship and was honored by the Bosox Club as the New England High School Team of the Year. Of the players he coached, 118 went on to play at the collegiate level and 6 were selected in the Major League Baseball annual draft.
Dave was elected to the Brockton High School Hall of Fame in 2006 and he was also a 2003 inductee into the Massachusetts Baseball Coaches Association (MBCA) Hall of Fame. He is a member of the 200 victory club in the MBCA as well as the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA), and three times during his coaching career he was selected to coach the South All-Star Team (1990, 1997 and 2005)..
Coach Fouracre has been a member of the Massachusetts Baseball Coaches Association (MBCA) since 1975 and a member of both the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) since 1994.
Most recently, Dave was a pitching coach for the Lowell All-Americans in the New England College Baseball League (NECBL) during the summer. This past spring he was a pitching coach at Curry College as he helped the Colonels advance to the NCAA Division III Tournament for the first team in team history.
A veteran of the United State Air Force and a retired Brockton school teacher, Dave presently resides in the town of West Bridgewater with his wife of 39 years, Cheryl. They have two sons, Brendan and Blake, as well as two grandchildren, Kelsie and Elsa.
