Rick Smith has enjoyed 16 successful seasons at Bridgewater State, which has included eight trips to the NCAA regional championships and two trips to the NCAA Division III College World Series in 1996 and 1997. His overall record of 405-205-4 (.663) during that period makes him the winningest coach in BSC baseball history.  In 2009, Coach Smith became the first head coach in program history to reach the 400-win milestone (an 18-8 win over UMass Dartmouth on April 23rd at Alumni Park).

In 1996 and again in 2000, Rick was named the ABCA New England Division III "Coach of the Year".  He was also selected the MASCAC "Coach of the Year" in 1998 and again in 2000. BSC has won or shared the MASCAC regular season title each of the last four seasons and nine times during his head coaching tenure.  His teams have also won at least 20 games in 14 of his 15 seasons at the helm, with two 30-win campaigns in 1996 (31-10) and 2000 (30-9).

Before coaching at Bridgewater State, Coach Smith had been an assistant coach at Stonehill College for seven seasons (1983-89). He then went on to be the assistant at Bridgewater under former head coach Glenn Tufts from 1990-93.

Rick is a 1972 graduate of Bridgewater-Raynham High School where he starred as a pitcher for the Trojans. He was taken in the fifth round of the annual Major League Baseball baseball draft by the St. Louis Cardinals. He now resides in Raynham with his daughters, Ariana and Sydney.
