Five Bears Garner All-MASCAC Baseball Honors

2009 All-MASCAC Baseball Team

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. --Bridgewater State College had five players named to the All-Massachusetts State College Athletic conference (MASCAC) Baseball Team in all-conference voting results recently released by MASCAC Director of Media Relations, Jim Seavey.

Senior outfielder Brendon Elliot and junior third baseman Mark Claffey were selected to the All-MASCAC First Team.  Senior catcher Kelly LaDow, senior second baseman Brad Koneski and junior designated hitter Matt Greenberg were voted on to the second team..

Elliot batted .408 with eight home runs, nine doubles, four triples and 45 runs batted in during his first and only season at Bridgewater State.  The Brockton, Massachusetts native also scored 29 runs, stole 14 bases and posted a .827 slugging percentage and .459 on base percentage in 28 games.

Claffey, who hails from Bellingham, is making his second appearance on the All-MASCAC Team as he was a second team selection as a freshman in 2007.  Claffey batted .329 in 39 games with six doubles, three triples, 37 runs scored and 23 RBI.  He also walked 26 times, stole nine bases and posted a .451 on base percentage.

An East Falmouth native, LaDow is also making his second appearance on the All-MASCAC Team.  In 2007 he was a first team selection as well as the conference player of the year.  LaDow batted .361 in 2009 with six home runs, 16 doubles and 38 runs batted in.  He also scored 34 runs and registered a .611 slugging percentage in 37 games.

A native of North Dartmouth, Koneski set the Bears' single-season record for most stolen bases without being caught with 32.  He batted .371 in 36 games with two home runs, 11 doubles, 44 runs scored and 25 runs batted in.  Koneski also walked 18 times and recorded a .462 on base percentage.

Greenberg, who hails from Norwell, batted .333 with seven home runs, seven doubles and 28 RBI in his first year with the Bears.  He also scored 20 runs, walked 17 times and posted a .692 slugging percentage and 460 on base percentage in 26 games this season.

Bridgewater State completed the 2009 season with a record of 24-16 including a 10-4 mark in MASCAC play.  The Bears finished second in the conference standings and went 1-2 at the double-elimination MASCAC Tournament.  BSC defeated third-seeded MCLA, 6-5, in 13 innings before dropping a 10-4 decision to #4 Westfield State.  The Bears were then eliminated with a 9-8 loss to top-seeded Worcester State.
