NEIBA College All-Star Game Rosters Announced

MEDFORD, Mass. -- The rosters for the 34th Annual New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) College All-Star Game have been officially announced.  The game will take place at 9 AM on Saturday, June 14th at Fenway Park.

A team of Division I All-Stars (University Division) will play a squad made up of Division II All-Stars and Division III Senior All-Stars (College Division) in the annual game.  The University Division leads the all-time series with a 21-10-1 record, but the College Division team won last year's game with a 2-0 shutout.

Senior outfielder Steve Smith (East Taunton, MA) is the 24th player in the history of the Bridgewater State College baseball program to be selected to compete in the all-star game. The last representative for BSC at the College All-Star Game was catcher Joe Harkins in 2004.

Smith, a second team selection on the NEIBA Division III All-New England Team, batted .414 (60-for-145) this season with six home runs, 40 RBI, 35 runs scored, 17 doubles and two triples.  He also walked 20 times and sported a .683 slugging percentage and a .485 on base percentage.

Prior to the game, the NEIBA will present its annual awards. Three Teams of the Year will be recognized - Dartmouth in Division I, Franklin Pierce in Division II and Trinity in Division III - along with Coaches of the Year Bob Whelan (Dartmouth), Jayson King (Franklin Pierce) and Bill Decker (Trinity).

Bruce Joyce, formerly the coach at Southern New Hampshire University and past president of the NEIBA, will receive the Jack Butterfield Award, presented to a coach who exhibits the integrity and dedication to the game that Coach Butterfield displayed during his long career at the University of Maine.

The recently-established Kevin Burr Assistant Coach Award will be presented to longtime Tufts assistant Bob Clarke. During the winter, John Claffey of the Cape Cod League received NEIBA's Andy Baylock Distinguished Service Award.
