SCHOOL-AGE LEARN TO SWIM

Swim Lessons are offered five days per week, Monday through Friday and encompass all ten levels of the American Swim Coaches Association's "Swim America" program.  Time periods begin at 8:15 A.M. according to levels.  Please consult the level and time page for exact times and levels.  Children must have completed kindergarten to be eligible.  All instructors are certified by the American Swim Coaches Association and are on deck or in the water with their class at all times.  Certified lifeguards are also on deck.

Youth

Level 1
(For swimmers  6+ with no previous experience)

10 relaxed bob

Level 2
(Swimmers 6+ who have passed level 1 or swim test)

Front float and recover
Front glide and recover
Back float and recover
Back glide and recover
Jumping bobs
Streamline bob

Goal
Front glide from push and recover 5 sec.s
Back glide from push and recover 5 secs.

Level 3
(Swimmers 6+ who have passes level 2 or swim test)

Introduce
Porpoising
Sit on kickboard sculling
Front kick, glide, recover
Back kick, glide, recover
Dolphin kick, glide, recover
See-saw body movement

Goal
Streamline front kick 15 ft.
Streamline back kick 15 ft.

Level 4
(Swimmers 6+ who have passed level 3 or swim test)

Side-glide-kick
Crawl stroke arms
Finning and sculling
Roll over front to back, back to front
Backwards bob

 

Goal
Side-glide-kick 20 feet
Crawl stroke, 20 feet, no breathing

Level 5
(Swimmers 6+ who have passed level 4 or swim test)

Crawl stroke breathing
Back crawl stroke
Horizontal head first sculling
handstands
Double sommersault

Goals
Crawl stroke with breathing
(30 feet and at least 4 breaths)

Level 6
(Swimmers 6+ who have passed level 5 or swim test)

Extended freestyle swimming
Jump in and tread water
Sitting dive
Kneeling dive
Standing dive
Tread water

Goal
Swim freestyle, 75 ft
Swim backstroke, 30 ft
Tread water for 1 minute

Advanced Strokes Levels (Swim America Levels 7-10)
(Swimmers 6+ who have passed level 6 or swim test)

This level prepares swimmers to be a part of a competitive swimming program.  Emphasis is on stroke development and the addition of breaststroke and butterfly to the swimmers abilities.
Swimmers will work on starts, turns, and endurance.
